Animal Communication with Kangaroos in Western Australia

Kangaroo sculptures and art

Here I am meeting my first kangaroo in Western Australia! Now I know it’s not a real kangaroo, but I was excited to get my first glimpse of the size and scale of a fully grown male kangaroo when I visited this bronze sculpture in Perth.

The truth is, I didn’t get a photo of the kangaroos I was lucky enough to meet. I was so in awe when I saw them, that I simply watched them for as long as there was enough light. They gathered at dusk each evening in and around the olive groves of the glamping site where I was staying in the Margaret River region. This made it difficult to get a photo, even when they were close enough, as they blended so well with their surroundings in the fading light.

To say that this experience of witnessing kangaroos in the wild was magical, is a bit of an understatement! Nothing had prepared me for seeing large groups of kangaroos, gathering together in families of more than fifty at a time. It was slightly unreal each time I saw them.

I was beyond excited the first time I saw one bounce and even more excited to see a pair of young males play boxing one evening. They generally lay under the trees or grazed calmly together.

One evening, just as dusk fell, I met a “big red”. He was magnificent, standing at around seven feet tall and it was such a privilege to see him. I was chatting with the caretakers of the olive farm and meeting their springer spaniel and their ram, who was called Ramborghini! We were watching the sheep grazing in an olive grove, when Big Red appeared about 30 metres away and started watching us. He seemed fascinated by us and stood watching for twenty minutes before melting away between the trees.

He was the first close contact I had had with a wild kangaroo and I had heard quite a few stories from others I had met, about kangaroo aggression. Big Red was calm, curious and respectful, showing no signs of aggression, even with a dog present. When I asked him if he minded us being there, he replied, “It’s ok with me.” He reminded me of a sentinel watching over the land and I asked him if he was looking after things. He said, “I am a guardian of the land.”

The other kangaroos I saw and connected with during my stay, had such a gentle and almost “deer like” energy. They felt soft in their approach and were shy and a little curious. They would move away as one if they felt concerned, but, on the whole, I sensed a great calm from the groups I encountered.

They reached out gently to connect with me in animal communication. There was a soft, snuffling around my energy as they connected with curiosity. I was reminded of an interaction I had with a guinea pig called Kurt (see Kurt’s healing story). When I offered Kurt healing, he snuffled all around my hands, searching for the source of the sensation he could feel coming from the healing energy. I wasn’t touching him, but beaming the healing to him through my hands and he could feel it! The kangaroos did the same exploration of my energy field, snuffling around my aura before calmly returning to graze.

The communications I received from them were in the form of sensations and knowing. They showed me how they are incredibly connected to the land and the spiritual and elemental realms. I felt their wise knowing and one of the gifts I received from connecting with the kangaroos, was a deepening of my grounding to the Earth and nature and a deep appreciation for how we are all connected and all have an important role to play on this planet.
